CAPS FOR BAD EYES. IT WAS SAD THAT FREUD AND JUNG HAD LOST THEIR FRIENDSHIP BY THE TIME OF THE NAZIS. BEFORE BOTH WORLD WARS, C.G. JUNG HAD VISIONS OF EUROPE FLOODED BY BLOOD; AND BEFORE WWII, OF SIEGFRIED NEEDING TO BE KILLED. EVERY FREUDIAN SHOULD READ JUNG’S “MEMORIES, DREAMS, REFLECTIONS”. PERHAPS A FREUDIAN VERSION COULD BE TITLED “MAMMARIES, SCREAMS, REJECTIONS”. I’M GLAD YOU’RE WRITING ABOUT FREUD’S WIFE. JUNG WROTE HIS INNER AUTOBIOGRAPHY. FREUD WANTED JUNG TO BE HIS GENTILE SON. THEY BOTH HAD DEATH WISHES TOWARDS EACH OTHER. FREUD INSISTED “YOU MUST NEVER GIVE UP THE DOGMA OF THE SEXUAL PRINCIPLE”, (DOGMA NOT BEING AS WEIGHTED A TERM AS IT IS NOW). VERY IMPORTANT TO SAY THAT TO PROMISE A CURE IS DANGEROUS.

This was one of the worst interviews I’ve ever heard. Daphne Merkin apparently thought that SHE was the point of the evening. I really wanted to hear Adam Phillips, but couldn’t relax or focus on his comments because of the constant “right,” “right” coming on the heels of most them, and Merkin’s rush to finish Phillips’s sentences.

Why in the world would you allow someone this inept and self-obsessed to conduct an interview?

I stopped listening because of Merkin’s unconscionable egotism and rudeness.(And, please, I know the difference between nervousness and incompetence. Nervousness doesn’t make one a coarse attention hog.)

Thanks a lot for what could have been great listening.
