Elie Wiesel: “To Life!” A Celebration of 180 Jewish Lectures at 92Y
Elie Wiesel: “To life!” A Celebration of 180 Jewish Lectures at 92Y marks Professor Wiesel’s 180th lecture at 92Y, delivered over almost half a century.
We welcomed special guests to pay tribute to Professor Wiesel’s unique contributions to 92Y and to the world in what we know will be a memorable evening. Joining him on stage included Hillary Rodham Clinton, former United States Senator Joe Lieberman, award-winning television journalist Jeff Greenfield, Nobel Laureate Eric Kandel and The Jewish Week’s Gary Rosenblatt, with performances by Grammy® Award-winning violinist Pinchas Zukerman and the internationally acclaimed Young People’s Chorus of NYC.
Elie Wiesel’s first appearance at 92Y was on February 19, 1967, when he read and spoke about some of his own works. His longstanding series on Jewish wisdom and teachings have included his insights on Bible stories and Hasidic stories and illuminated the teachings of the great Talmudic masters. He has given the Annual State of World Jewry Lecture, and shared the stage with such luminaries as Eric Kandel, Marvin Kalb and David Axelrod. In 2010, 92Y audiences saw another side of Professor Wiesel, at Elie Wiesel In Concert: Memories & Melodies Of My Childhood, his first and only concert appearance.
