Lawrence Summers: What Kind of Inequality is OK?
Like many of us, Lawrence Summers is troubled by the gap between rich and poor in America and how that undermines our standing as “the land of opportunity.” But the former Harvard University president and Obama adviser also thinks we should accept a different kind of inequality: inequality of results. In today’s video, he explains what he means and also talks about the need for investment in the economy. But perhaps most intriguing is his optimism about what will happen in Washington after the November elections. Do you agree with him?
Once a week, 92nd Street Y’s Campaign for the American Conversation offers you insight and analysis from the best minds at the Harvard Kennedy School. HKS is collaborating with us on American Conversation Essentials – short videos that explain the issues at play during this campaign year. The videos are the building blocks for your own conversations with friends, colleagues and even people you’re not sure you agree with. Start with the information we offer here and then keep your mind open as you discuss the topics of the day.
