In honor of #GivingTuesday, the global day of giving back, 92Y’s Musical Introduction Series and Orchestra of St. Luke’s presents the New York première of Maximus Musicus Visits the Orchestra, a wondrous and creative musical story introducing young children to the pleasures of live music. Written in 2008 by Hallfríður Ólafsdóttir, principal flautist of the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra, “Maxi’s” adventures take him on a tour of the symphonic orchestra through their rehearsal of classic pieces by Beethoven and Ravel, as he leaps, scurries and climbs among the instruments. Presented in live performance, this Maximus’s story features the Orchestra of St. Luke’s conducted by Karina Canellakis, a fanfare commissioned specifically for this event composed by Tryggvi M. Baldvinsson, and is narrated by the author herself.
